Get to know our team – Jeremy Stewart

Jeremy is a senior structural engineer with over 15 years’ experience. He’s highly adept at designing for the residential sector, including new builds, extensions and renovations.

Jeremy is passionate about communicating and collaborating with home and property owners to achieve the best possible result for their project.

Why did you become an engineer?

I’m a very rational person and it’s a profession where theoretical maths and science is applied practically.

What do you love about engineering?

It’s really rewarding to be able to take on interesting projects from the conceptual phase. It’s great to see projects through to the end of construction and knowing I was a part of getting it there.

What are you working on at the moment?

At the moment I’m working on a renovation project (still in the concept design phase). The proposed works include building a multi-car garage underneath the home, a large rear extension and a pool – all while maintaining the façade of the existing house.

The extension has some serious engineering challenges associated with achieving the architectural intent, with very few columns and no walls.

We’ve worked very closely with the architect to optimise the structure for cost and ease of construction, without compromising the aesthetic.

What has been your greatest professional achievement to date?

A willingness to keep learning and improving, in order to provide the best service possible.

What
s the most useful thing you’ve learned throughout your career?

The importance of effective communication.

I’ve also learnt the power of being involved early on a project – it allows us to explore greater options with clients, consultants and the builder. Coming into a project later typically means less flexibility is available.

What would your last meal be?

Thai green curry, with chocolate peppermint pie for dessert.
