New Inertian! Meet Josh!

We would like to welcome Josh Falco to the Inertia team!   Josh is a Structural Engineer who has been in the construction industry for over 11 years.  He has a wide variety of experience in concrete, steelwork and timber design and construction.   We sat Josh down and asked him a few questions so we (you) could get to know him a little better.

What’s your role?

Structural Engineer in the Inertia Building Team

Why did you become an engineer?

I love witnessing the assembly of things.  This makes the construction of structures enjoyable as I get to see all facets of the process – efficient concept, economic design, RFI’s in construction and then, the final product.

Where does your experience lie?

My experience covers a wide range of sectors but most notably Retail and Multi-Residential.  Since 2012 I have been working on the Robina Town Centre Redevelopment which extensively involved new concrete and steel works as well as demolition and penetrating of the existing structure.

Where do you think the most value can be added in these types of Projects?

In retail, there are two main points that I’d recommend:

1.  Engaging the engineer earlier as the client can gain a lot in VM – especially when existing structures are involved (i.e. penetrations, revised loads etc.).

2. Experience is important as the design can change at any moment to match leasing.  Having an experienced design/site engineer can help keep the project running smoothly when unexpected changes are required to suit a tenant’s requirements.

What sort of things interest you outside of work?

I enjoy playing and watching sport, in particular, soccer.  I retired this year from playing as to spend more time with my family.   Although, I still find some time to take my newborn son to watch games.

What’s the most useful thing you‘ve learned throughout your career?

Time management.  I pride myself on my ability to manage my time for work, family and play.
