Inertia Welcomes BIM Expert To Structural Team
Inertia is thrilled to be welcoming Simon Byng to our team in the role of Digital Production Lead. After two decades in the Industry, Simon is an expert in his field of Building Information Modelling and brings a wealth of experience to our team.
In this role, Simon will be modelling and documenting structural projects, mentoring and managing the digital design production teams, as well as strengthening our BIM protocols – all of which will improve the value of our services. In particular, he will be leading Inertia’s transition from the use of AutoCAD on some of our smaller projects to documenting in Revit across all of our structural projects, allowing for greater coordination with other disciplines.
Simon is excited for a new challenge in his position at Inertia. “Too often I have seen firms fall short in setting up these systems as they don’t provide the necessary time and resources to implement it effectively. I am looking forward to the opportunity to build that side of the business in a way that I know will add value for our clients.”
Inertia’s Structural Principal Phil Latham welcomed Simon to the team. “The structural team has been extremely busy lately working on some iconic projects such as The Midtown Centre. With the help of Simon’s knowledge and experience, it will be great to be able to take our service offering to another level of detail.
“The use of 3D models and ultimately BIM changes the way assets are designed, delivered and managed. In the structural field, BIM is highly beneficial for projects of all sizes with coordination being an immediate benefit. The adoption of BIM allows for integration of additional information, including outline specification and materials, as well as allowing more collaborative design working practices such as federated models.”
With BIM becoming more and more likely to be mandated on projects, for example Queensland Government has launched a BIM Policy, we are delighted to be investing in our capabilities across this crucial area.”
Simon also enjoys speaking at conferences and seminars. Embodying Inertia’s core value of collaboration, he firmly believes that sharing knowledge is the only way forward. Outside of work Simon spends his time cooking, and spending time with his kids. He is also a ‘rugby tragic’ and never misses a game when his home team the Wellington Hurricanes are playing.
Welcome to the team Simon!
