Meet our Associates – Jodie Egan

Jodie brings over 20 years of experience in structural drafting and team management on housing and building engineering projects across New South Wales and Queensland.

“I ended up in structural drafting by accident; I didn’t know it existed when I was doing work experience at school. I had done tech drawing and wanted to be a draftsperson, so they sent me to do work experience with an Architect because that is what everyone associates with being a draftie. After high school, I just stumbled upon an ad for a structural drafting apprenticeship. Yes, it was an apprenticeship just like a plumber or a sparkie, I was paid to learn on the job and go to TAFE! In hindsight, I am a very logical thinker and not very creative, so structural engineering was probably a better fit for me,” said Jodie.

Jodie’s strong management skills and attention to detail are the foundation for developing high-quality products, further enhanced through enjoyable collaboration with consultants and contractors alike.

“After working in Sydney in the lead-up to the 2000 Olympics, I moved to regional NSW, where I found my passion for working in housing. In January 2012, my husband and I relocated to Brisbane, where I had a meeting with Scott and Dave and thought they seemed like pretty good guys. I had experience working for small companies and helping build their teams, so I saw that potential for Inertia. When I arrived, we were a team of five people, and all but one is still a part of the team today”

Having ticked over the decade milestone this year, Jodie has long been an important part of the Inertia journey. In that time, she has been on some amazing travels, trained and completed several marathons, and baked many incredible treats – when Jodie brings in her baked goods, you know everyone is going to have a good day.

“One thing I love about Inertia is our alignment with charities and causes that are important to us. In 2015, Dave and Scott sent me on a study tour with BUYGIVE1 to India, where I was lucky enough to see first-hand the incredible projects we helped raise money for. I met so many incredible people I am still in touch with today and had some unforgettable experiences.”
