Ones to Watch In 2023 – Part 2

In our second Ones to Watch feature, our team select a few more of the amazing projects they think will be highlights of 2023. From master-planned beachside developments to spectacular homes and commercial towers, Sean Stacey, Jed Michel and Ryan Llewellyn pick their ones to watch.

Sean Stacey – Principal – Buildings

We’ve got some special projects coming throughout 2023 across the Buildings team. New schools, new medical facilities, community centres and hubs, commercial zones and aviation precincts are all on the ones to watch list. But the one I have chosen as my project to watch in the year ahead is currently under wraps, so while I can’t tell you what it is, I can tell you that it is a spectacular riverfront development in the heart of Brisbane. It will positively transform an existing development maximising the site’s footprint, by adding a major tower featuring offices, commercial and retail spaces, restaurants, and green spaces on a plaza level. I’m also looking forward to working on this project due to how the architects and client have ensured that the building fits in with its location and built environment and minimises its environmental impacts. Rooftop solar arrays, battery storage and rainwater harvesting are all proposed as the development aims for a 5.5-star NABERS rating and 6-star Green Star Building rating, showcasing how as an industry we can minimise the environmental impact of infrastructure across the lifetime of a structure. Watch this space.

Jed Michel – Associate – Housing Lead

We have some amazing projects coming up in 2023 across the housing team. From multi-dwelling residential and mixed-use developments to premium homes that perfectly showcase how architecture, engineering and construction can collaborate to turn a world-class design into reality, this year will be spectacular. My project to watch this year is in development, and we will release details soon, but it is a breathtaking family home in Brisbane’s inner west. Designed to make the most of space, light and the natural environment, it features double-height rooms, large spans, and expansive glazing and is very much in keeping with the client’s lifestyle requirements. We’re fortunate to have worked on several high-profile and award-winning home projects, and I think this one will be up there with the best of the best.

Ryan Llewellyn – Associate – Greenfield Lead

My one to watch for the year ahead is a project we are delivering in Hervey Bay. Situated fronting Dundowran Beach in Hervey Bay, the Beachside development is a 250-hectare master-planned community set to contain over 1,500 residential lots, delivered across 50 stages. We will be working with the clients for around 10 years as the development takes shape, and we are heavily involved in the design of the early-stage infrastructure, including the master earthworks strategy, flooding and stormwater management, water network analysis, trunk water main design and road and intersection upgrades and their interface with existing infrastructure. We’re awaiting DA approval for the next stages and will keep you updated on the project’s progress throughout 2023 and beyond.
