Designing a Connected City – Part 1: Introduction

Listen in to this conversation between Scott Clements and Nader Ibrahim from O2LA, diving into the enormous opportunity unfolding as Brisbane plans for the 2032 Olympics.
Rather than viewing the Games as a four-week event, both Scott and Nader see it as a city-shaping catalyst – a moment to rethink how we design, connect, and elevate places like Victoria Park and Woolloongabba. It’s a rare chance to build a meaningful legacy that benefits future generations.
A strong theme in their discussion? Connection. Urban design 101 reminds us that connection underpins everything – how people move, how communities form, and how precincts evolve into places people genuinely want to be.
As Nader puts it: “Connection is the foundational principle of what we are doing here, and what we should be doing.”
Scott echoes this sentiment: “There is no community without connection.”
This shared philosophy is what brought Scott and Nader together on the Woolloongabba Heart project – and why this series will explore how thoughtful design can drive a more connected, vibrant and future-ready Brisbane.
