Inertia LandAI hosted Urban Innovation: Global Communities

Last week, Inertia LandAI, powered by CIVIX and Allsite.ai, hosted Urban Innovation: Global Communities – a session that brought together industry leaders to explore the future of urban design. We kicked off with a presentation from Mike Day (Co-Founder & Director, Sharp | Day), and he was later joined by Bob Sharpless (Deputy Chairman, Springfield City Group) and Cameron Shephard (Executive Director, Okeland Communities) for a panel discussion.

Four themes stood out:

1. Classic Urban Design – what worked 100 years ago still applies today. Walkable, shaded communities with easy access to good amenities.
2. Approval Issues – supply is our key affordability issue, but if projects are stalled for multiple years due to local, state, or national government approvals, how are we doing to deliver what our communities need?
3. Affordable Living – let’s think in terms of ‘affordable living’, not just ‘affordable housing’, to understand broader lifestyle costs (e.g., needing two cars due to estate location)
4. Transport Infrastructure – the panel strongly agreed that infrastructure should lead, with housing and commercial development following, not the other way around.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and to our speakers for bringing such valuable insights to the room.
