Inertian Insight – August 2023
OUR PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Brickworks Park
We are pleased to see the latest progress at Brickworks Park! Inertia Engineering is engaged for civil and structural works by DMC Projects, at the historic site on Mina Parade, Alderley where the former industrial facility is transforming into an exciting residential development.
The 4.7-hectare location features a 15 metre cliff face and is set to undergo an epic makeover into a village-style neighbourhood of Queenslander style townhouses and designer apartments with private landscaped parklands. The approved plans comprise of a Residents’ Club House, complete with dining pavilion, gym, pool and BBQ facilities, all of which contribute to the resort vibe within the precinct, making this one of the most desirable places to live only 5 kilometres from the CBD.
Handel Street, Indooroopilly
PROJECT COMPLETION! Inertia Engineering is delighted to collaborate with BB Civil to deliver projects like this subdivision of 2 into 5 lots, at Handel St, Indooroopilly, for Ideal Property. From the very beginning, right through to completion, our amazing Urban team was a part of each stage, delivering civil works and contract administration services.
INERTIA CONNECT
Empowering our Inertians to be the best version of themselves calls for the time, the right space, and a clear vision. And that is what 2023 Inertia Connect delivered!
This year, we tuned in to ourselves and one another at the stunning Old Museum, where everyone was given the time to shine in a unique form of self-expression. Collaborating with experts Dr Cathryn Lloyd from Maverick Minds, Simon Hewett, and Davis Dingle, we witnessed each person step out of their comfort zone to become elevated in an instrumental ensemble. They demonstrated orchestral techniques focused on communication and harmony, setting the beat for the entire day.
Eliza Allard from The Content Lab artfully captured what Inertia Connect means to us and the purpose behind this rhythmic, creative and meaningful occasion.
INERTIA WEEKLY ELEVATE
Australian Tanks CPD Presentation
Inertia Engineering recently hosted an educational Elevate Session with our guest speaker, Peter Grainger – Business Development Manager of Australian Tanks. Peter piqued our interest, with his knowledge and expertise on their range of Australian designed and manufactured products, for civil infrastructure projects. It was fantastic to learn about the latest innovations in stormwater management with the introduction of the exciting, new Humefilter UPT solution.
INERTIANS OUT AND ABOUT
'Imagining our Future' Board Lunch
Challenges, opportunities and constraints in the industrial and retail sector in design, supply and construction were on the menu at our latest ‘Imagining our Future’ Board Lunch series. With insights served up by Marcus Brown – Director of Bull & Bear Economics and Shane Sparks – Senior Development Manager at Brisbane Airport Corporation. Inertia’s Managing Director, Scott Clements and Advisory Board Chair, Roger Collins-Woolcock welcomed industry partners at the stunning Moda Restaurant for a Spanish private dining experience with accompanying wines from Darren Davis’ of Davis White Fine Wine Spanish Wine Selection. Located at the heritage-listed barracks on Petrie Terrace, Moda’s unique restaurant is in the old stables and, as well as being a great place to eat, is a fine example of how to repurpose a wonderful old structure and give it a new lease of life while preserving the building’s historical architecture and engineering design. Something we are passionate about at Inertia, making this the perfect venue for our future-focused conversations. We take great pleasure in making these special events a success and are thankful for the contributions made by all. Thank you to Inertians, Gregg Hoesman, Joshua Falco and Susan Stephens. Thank you also to Marcus Brown – Bull & Bear Economics, Trent Forrest – Urbis, Peter Crunkhorn – RPS, Jessica Ellis – Taylor Ellis , John Dobrenov – ESR Australia, Shane Sparks – Brisbane Airport Corporation, Richard Lloyd – Vaughan Constructions, Daniel John – Anthony John Group, John McCarthy – Buchan and Michael Rinaudo – ADCO Constructions.
Midtown Wins Again!
Didn’t they scrub up well? Inertia’s Scott Clements and Joshua Falco headed to the PCA National Innovation and Excellence Awards as guests of our wonderful clients AsheMorgan and DMann Corp. It was an evening of celebration as The Midtown Centre won the Award for Best Sustainable Development! A well-deserved accolade for a groundbreaking project that has set an Australian and global benchmark for the successful adaptation and reuse of existing buildings. Congratulations to everyone involved on yet another award!
Civil Team - Putt Putt
Recently, our civil team had a game of Putt Putt Mini Golf at Victoria Park, where we let our hair down and got our game on. It was a great opportunity to spend time in a more casual environment and get to know one of our newest members, Graduate Civil Engineer, Sheldon Whitworth. Honeylette Mia Ferolin demonstrated exceptional skills on the course, effortlessly gliding balls across the green. While the rest of us were scrambling with a limited supply, Diego Mello was seemingly extracting balls out of thin air. We had a great day, laughing and jeering at both our skills and inabilities, all in a spirit of fun competition.
Building Team - Axe Throwing
Earlier this month, our Buildings team impressed everyone with their “axe factor” at Lumberpunks, West End in an axe throwing spectacular! Not for the faint-hearted, it was game on as each Inertian measured up their aim and sent those axes flying with engineer skill and precision. Feeling a little peckish after all that adrenaline, we finished up at Parched Craft Brewery for some good ole pub grub.
National Science Week 2023
This month, our local Mitchelton State School held their annual event for National Science Week 2023 with the theme, Innovation: Powering Future Industries. Inertia’s Buildings Principal, Sean Stacey, volunteered his morning to assist in judging over 140 entries from eager students in Prep to Year 6, for a STEM competition where the children were given opportunities to explore the theme from a variety of perspectives. Sean was delighted to see an assortment of work produced by creative out-of-the-box thinkers; “sometimes us adults can be nervous to embrace this fast-tracked world of technology, but to see these young, open minds get a firm grip on advancements and be supported by amazing programs such as these, is both impressive and inspirational for us all.” Congratulations to all the students who participated; we wish you the very best towards an exciting future, continuing to expand on knowledge while developing problem-solving and collaboration skills. We hope to see any future budding engineers join the ranks of Inertia Engineering one day!
