Inertian Insight – June 2024
OUR PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
Calamvale Special School
Facing unique challenges to address overland stormwater flow, our Civil and Structural teams worked together to create a project solution that enabled the new General Learning Centre at Calamvale Special School to work with the existing profile of the land. This allowed the building construction programme to be brought forward; by negating the need for large underground stormwater infrastructure and extensive earthworks.
Architecturally designed by COBiE Group, the structural framing design of the building was developed to work efficiently with classroom layouts and enable flexibility for future remodelling or alternate layout configurations.
The outdoor play area, designed by Landscape Architect, Jeremy Ferrier, is entirely suspended over an under-croft with open channel flow for stormwater management, and topped with varying structural levels – including a ‘dry’ creek – to enrich the experience of play-centred learning.
Inertia and Paynters worked collaboratively through the construction phase to ensure a quality outcome, and we are proud to deliver this creative, functional, and adaptive facility for Calamvale Special School.
Grece, Holland Park
Inertia is proud to showcase the completion of this beautiful home in Holland Park. We thoroughly enjoyed working with the fantastic teams at Batspac and Esat Design to bring this project together. Grèce is a beautifully modern take on a traditional Greek-inspired home. This dream home features luxurious finishes and an outdoor entertaining area that has the Mediterranean calling! Inertia’s Residential Lead, Jed Michel says “This was a fantastic project to work on with the Batspac and Esat Design teams, who brought real passion to the project. Working together to help shape our clients vision for their dream home is extremely satisfying and seeing the end result showcased by the local project is something the team is extremely proud of”.

Manly State School
Inertia is pleased to partner with Architectural Collaborative to deliver Structural and Civil Engineering services for the new three level GLA Building and Church Refurbishment at Manly State School. We are excited to see construction begin and congratulate ICM Construction on being appointed to bring this project to fruition.
Scott's Vinnies CEO Sleepout
We are proud of Scott Clements for stepping into the shoes of so many Australians who endure cold nights without shelter, in order to raise much-needed awareness and funds for homelessness. Scott himself has raised a substantial $5065 and his G.O.A.T.S team have smashed their goal raising over $500,000, surpassing last year’s record.
“A wonderful event, although it was a long day after a slightly uncomfortable night. However I only had that day to get through – there are less fortunate that have to go through this day in day out, sometimes for years. Vinnies have experienced a 15% year on year increase in calls for help since COVID, and they need our support to continue their great service. If you can afford to donate, please do so via the link below.” – Scott Clements

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN IN ENGINEERING DAY
Future Engineer
To spread the word that “engineering is awesome” to our future engineers, we were delighted to host a talented female student from Indooroopilly State High School in the office. 💼💡
🌟Thank you for joining us, Sharnel! 🌟
Structural Project Lead, Kate Heliotis, explored design processes and demonstrated how we collaborate with other consultants to create innovative solutions. From initial concepts to final implementation, Sharnel got to see first hand how structural engineering plays a crucial role in shaping our built environment.
At Inertia we take great pride in recognising the valued work and achievements of our female engineers. We believe in providing opportunities for all our team members to excel and grow and we are proud to have a substantial representation of strong, intelligent women working with us. This year we are celebrating through sharing what this year’s theme “Enhanced by Engineering” means to Casey, Vanessa and Emily.
QMCA & NAWIC INWED Breakfast
We are honoured to have had Emma Clements and Kate Heliotis representing us at this fantastic International Women in Engineering Day event on Friday. Thank you to QMCA and NAWIC for inviting Inertia to recognise and celebrate the women in our industry.
