Ok Tedi Mine, Papua New Guinea

The Ok Tedi Mine project consisted of the structural design of multiple structures including; a large steel framed maintenance facility, a truck workshop and large wash bay.

The scope included the design of all structural components including, but not limited to; building walls (internal and external), flooring, stairways, tanks, and concrete slabs.  Challenges to the design included; large spans to accommodate mining vehicles, crane access, as well as large eye beams to support large water cannons in the wash bay.  Due to the warehouse floor area being 6,000m2 with a height ridge of 20m, our design consisted of vertically and horizontally trussing the maintenance area to maintain an efficient structure while reducing costs.
