Inertian Insight – August 2024

OUR PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

Hudson Common - 240 Sandgate Road, Albion

Inertia Engineering is proud to announce the practical completion of the historical refurbishment project at 240 Sandgate Road in Albion. On the path to demolition, this 1970s building has been transformed from outdated and unsightly into a beautiful modern masterpiece newly named ‘Hudson Common’. In partnership with Alceon QLD this project has been taken from concept to reality through retaining the original structure with an internal overhaul, while achieving future proofing with a focus on sustainability.

This iconic inner-city office reconceptualises the modern workplace experience through leading architectural design by Nettleton Tribe. It features generous parking facilities along with close proximity to plenty of alternative transport options. With the historical aspect to the fit out and extension works required for this project, the Inertia team applied careful consideration of the assessment needed in conjunction with the existing structure to ensure the achievement of a seamless build.

‘Hudson Common’ has now been officially handed over to the new tenant for internal fitout.

Project highlights:
– new plant deck over basement driveway
– new outdoor terrace on roof slab at level 1
– build up to external areas and new planters and stairs to entry
– new facade and glazing
– modified core walls to allow upgrades to modern amenities

Inertia Town Hall Round 2

Inertia’s twice yearly Town Hall was held yesterday, as we gathered to reflect on our achievements and set the course for the future. We reaffirmed our commitment to excellence and revisited our core vision and purpose. Our open discussion highlighted both the challenges we face and the opportunities ahead. We identified key initiatives that will drive our growth and position us as leaders in our industry. This dialogue has energised us to move forward with confidence, innovation, and a clear strategic direction for the next chapter of our journey together.

ELEVATION CELEBRATION!

Congratulations to our valued Inertian, Aaron Knight, on his promotion to Associate! Aaron began his journey with Inertia 3 years ago. Throughout his career with us he shown his passion for knowledge and mentoring in all things civil engineering, whilst delivering exceptional results for our clients. As a highly valued member of our leadership team, we are excited to see the next steps in Aaron’s journey.

As Emma Clements outlines, ‘The Urban team’s depth of experience has grown, thanks to Aaron keeping us moving in the right direction. He is our rock, our sounding board, and the glue that keeps the Urban team in sync and together. Best of all, he has the incredible ability to ensure his team starts every day with a smile—sometimes even a belly laugh—with his “dad jokes”. Thank you, Aaron, and congratulations on your well-deserved promotion!”

INERTIANS OUT AND ABOUT

Birthday Munch

We began the month with a celebration of our Inertians born in June to August with some scrumptious Chinese cuisine at Uncle Wang Restaurant and Bar on Petrie Terrace. The gang enjoyed a refreshing beverage with their meal while sharing stories and having some laughs. Happy Birthday!

UQ Civil Engineering Student Association's Semester 2 Networking Night

Inertians, Kate and Alex, were honoured to attend the UQ Civil Engineering Student Association’s Semester 2 Networking Night last Thursday. The event was an opportunity for undergraduate engineering students across all civil disciplines to engage with industry representatives and learn about different companies, guiding them towards pursuing their ideal graduate pathway. Kate and Alex enjoyed connecting with the students and imparting their knowledge and experiences, and sharing some of the exciting project opportunities that Inertia has to offer.

Kate, “Events like this provide an exciting opportunity for students to connect their university theory with real-project applications. I thoroughly enjoy empowering students to take the lead in their own careers; to actively seek an employer they connect with based on core-values and go after experience above all else. Inertia offers such a dynamic and invigorating learning environment that any student wishing to stretch themselves and create their own success would thrive here!”

EAT UP!

Feeding hungry kids so they can learn, grow, and succeed.

On Tuesday, a team of our Inertians spent their morning at Berrinba East State School making sandwiches for hungry children. Eat Up is Australia’s only organisation providing free lunches to students on a national scale and Inertia is proud to be able to lend a hand in supporting the organisation and the children they help.

Emma Clements, “we need to take care of our youth, and organizations like EAT UP are doing just that by providing food to those in need. This allows them to focus on their education instead of their rumbling bellies. With hope, some of the kids eating our sandwiches today will grow up to become engineers and achieve great things in the future. It’s a win-win!”

A big thank you to ESR for inviting us to be part of the solution.
