INERTIA CONNECT 2024

THE GREAT INERTIAN RACE

Inertia Connect 2024 was an epic day of fun, connection, and teamwork! Our Inertians explored Brisbane in the first-ever Great Inertian Race, completing creative challenges, discovering the city, and bonding outside the office. From navigating public transport to filming workout videos, swimming at South Bank, and finding hidden artworks, our teams smashed every challenge!

A massive thank you to, Luke Grzesiczak, Emma Skea, Dave Kelly, Brittany Collins, and Jessica Heath for organising this incredible event. 🙌

Here’s to stepping out of our comfort zones, building connections, and making lasting memories together! 💥

Thank you to Eliza at The Content Lab for this wonderful group photo.

INERTIAN SPOTLIGHT!

Joining Inertia four years ago, as a Structural Drafter, Dutch has now been appointed a Drafting Team Lead of the Buildings Group.

Dutch’s Story:

Early on I went through a phase of not really knowing what I wanted to do after finishing school, something I feel is common for a lot of people. After working at Woolworths for a while, I decided it wasn’t for me and it was time to get pro-active about my life and career. I started studying an associate degree at Southbank TAFE, remembering the enjoyment and knowledge that technical drawing and engineering science gave me in high school. The idea was to probably become an engineer, however whilst studying the degree I applied to an ad in the paper (old school!) after recommendation from a friend’s mum who was also looking for a career change. I applied for Bornhorst and Ward as they were looking for a Cadet Drafter and managed to snag the job!

ELEVATIONS!

We are thrilled to celebrate Sheldon Whitworth‘s well-earned promotion from Graduate Civil Engineer to Civil Engineer! Since joining Inertia Engineering in the first half of 2023, Sheldon has showcased his commitment to learning and made impressive contributions to our team.

Aaron Knight, Inertia’s Land & Water Team Lead, shared: “Sheldon has shown a thirst for knowledge in the ‘why’ behind the engineering decisions. Armed with this, Sheldon has become a valuable part of the team – managing contractors, clients, and authorities to successfully complete projects. I am looking forward to achieving our next set of goals together.”

Well done Sheldon!

INERTIA CULTURE

Spotlight On The Inertia Cultural Committee (ICC)

At Inertia, we believe that a strong, connected team is the heart of our success. That’s why we’re so proud of our Inertia Cultural Committee (ICC), a dedicated group of individuals who go above and beyond to make sure our team thrives together.

From planning an annual calendar packed with fun events, exciting fundraisers, and unique opportunities to connect, the ICC ensures there’s always something to look forward to. Whether it’s a themed social event, a community charity drive, or just a casual get-together, they create moments that bring us closer as a team.

To keep things fresh and diverse, the ICC’s membership changes year to year, bringing in new ideas, perspectives, and energy. This dynamic approach not only enriches our culture but also ensures that every team member has the chance to contribute to and shape our shared experiences.

It’s not just about work here at Inertia—it’s about building a culture where everyone feels valued, engaged, and inspired. Huge thanks to the ICC for making this happen, year after year.

Lunch & Learn with Aquatec

This month, several members of our Land & Water Team at Inertia attended an in-house lunch-and-learn session hosted by Andrew McKenzie from Aquatec. The session focused on finding innovative solutions for water, wastewater, and odour control challenges, and how Aquatec delivers reliable outcomes through their services. The team is always grateful for opportunities to develop their knowledge through our industry partners.

RU OK?

Checking in on the people around us is something we can all do, any day of the year. Life’s ups and downs don’t wait, and sometimes a simple, heartfelt conversation can help more than we know. At Inertia, we believe in fostering a culture where it’s okay to ask, “R U OK?” regularly, creating an environment where people feel supported and heard.

As we recognised #RUOKDay, we were reminded that starting a meaningful conversation can make a real difference. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture – just checking in could be the lifeline someone needs. Let’s continue to ask, listen, and support each other, every day.
