HOT TOPICS
Emma's Trek for Change
On Friday 19th April 2024, Inertia’s Emma Clements is hitting the road to embark on a trek in the Scenic Rim, to raise awareness and much needed funds for the 120,000 young Australians who are without a safe and secure place to sleep. As one of 20 inspirational leaders taking strides to make a difference, we caught up with Emma to hear her thoughts on this crucial cause:
Tell us about the initiative – The Hike for Homeless Youth, organised by the Property Industry Foundation in collaboration with Inspired Adventures, aims to raise funds in constructing homes for homeless youth and offering ongoing support, enabling young people to rebuild their lives.
Why does it matter to you? – Every year, I see more people without homes. The cost of living keeps going up, and it’s harder to find affordable places to live. This makes things even tougher for young people. Being a mother of three young boys, they will be embarking out into the big world themselves and I worry about what the future holds for them.
What kind of training and wellbeing checks will you do to prepare for the hike? – My fellow team members are hitting the trails of Mt Coot-Tha later this month and I hope we’ll make this a regular training session to prepare us for the big hike in late April.
How do you think your background in engineering uniquely positions you to contribute to social and affordable housing initiatives? – Given my background in civil engineering, I am driven to utilise my knowledge and skills to make a meaningful contribution to social and affordable housing initiatives. Instead of merely observing, I am motivated to take action and contribute to the design and construction of homes that are desperately needed.
For those inspired by your story and the Property Leaders Hike for Homeless Youth, what actions or support would you encourage them to take to contribute to the cause of affordable housing? – If you’re feeling disheartened by the growing number of homeless youths, I urge you to take action to support this essential human right. As these challenges intensify, it’s vital to lay the groundwork now, benefiting not just the current generation but also future ones. Click the link and donate to my team. Every penny counts, and remember, it’s going towards such a worthwhile cause.
Social & Affordable Housing: A Conversation
Here are a few key highlights:
- Shifting the mindset around social housing: Ensuring a safe place to live should be considered essential and accessible for all.
- Exploring avenues to unlock more suitable land for the development of social and affordable housing.
- Strategically devising better housing solutions for communities.
- Identifying changes or triggers that could be implemented to align supply with demand.

PCA Future Directions
Inertians, Tyler Brown, Aaron Knight, Adam Iervese, and Nicolaus Whittle joined young property professionals at the QLD Future Directions Committee‘s annual Network-a-bration at Valley Hops Brewing. Hosted by the Property Council of Australia, the event was a vibrant hub for an evening of networking amongst budding industry leaders.
We believe in fostering professional growth, and events like these align perfectly with our commitment to our team’s development. Thanks to the QLD Future Directions Committee for organising such a fantastic opportunity to connect, learn, and kick-start a bigger and better year ahead!
Hike for Homeless Youth Fundraising Activities
Inertia’s Emma Clements is one of 20 inspiring leaders in the property and construction industry, taking strides to address the pressing issue of homelessness. The 2024 Hike for Homeless Youth is set to make a real difference, and their collective efforts are making a positive impact.
We can all contribute and show support for this important cause. Here are a few highlights of Emma’s journey in taking meaningful steps toward ending youth homelessness:
- PING PONG JAMBOREE – With paddles in hand, we rallied to raise crucial funds for those without a safe place to call home. In a spirit of friendly competition, Champions Kai and Dutch impressed all with winning serves.
- PIF WALK AND BREKKY – Emma joined Adam Di Marco, Scott Douglas, Brian Camilleri, Annabelle Aland, and Antoinette Rusby-Perera at Mount Coot-Tha for a relaxed walk and brekky as part of their training for the hike which will be on 19-20 April.
- EMMA’S TRAINING – Hervey Bay is the perfect setting for a training session, and Emma seized the moment at her recent visit for the Urban Development Industry of Australia – Queensland event, “From Land and Sea – Overcoming Water Challenges on the Fraser Coast.”
Let’s join forces and create awareness, working towards meeting the crucial need for social and affordable housing in South East Queensland.
