Macquarie Street, St Lucia

Inertia Engineering was engaged by McNab and QM Properties for Urban Civil and Flood works on this exclusive residential tower in the heart of St Lucia, overlooking the Brisbane River. This stunning waterfront residence features 16 storeys of exquisite 3-bedroom apartments, offering private access to an onsite gym, cinema, waterfront swimming pool and rooftop dining areas.

The site, being located close to Smyth Creek and the Brisbane River was impacted by river flooding which meant the basement construction had to be designed to mitigate flooding risks. Due to the configuration of Macquarie Street, there was limited street access available, making it a challenge for vehicles to turn around and service supply.

Inertia’s, Benjamin Moyle was the designer of the project, responsible for resolving these constraints including the service coordination and supply of water, sewer, and stormwater around the existing infrastructure. A considerable amount of time was spent liaising with the client, contractors, council, and neighbouring properties to ensure that disruption to the local community was kept as minimal as possible. For example, the popular Brisbane City Loop cycle route and connecting pedestrian paths are used by approximately 5,000 people a day, who use the pathways to ride, jog and walk. Therefore, the solution of a temporary diversion was created for this high traffic public area.
