Wickham Street, Fortitude Valley
Inertia provided the structural engineering for the refreshed plaza nestled within 3 existing buildings as well as ground floor works, to become a more welcoming and social space for tenants. The redevelopment includes extensive plaza upgrades to create a central ‘heart’ and adjacent sunken lounge areas with a new feature canopy throughout. Works also extend to the ground floor lobby and auditorium of the 100 Wickham St building.
With much of the site being constructed around 1970, there was very limited information and drawings about the existing structures, which posed a challenge for Inertia’s structural engineering team. This also made connecting the new canopy between the buildings even more complex, however the result creates comfortable new outdoor areas which facilitate community engagement and social interaction within the space.
Thanks to the combined work of CapitaLand, WINIM Developments, Rothelowman, AECOM, Urbis, Integral Group and the rest of the team, the project has recently gained DA approval. We are looking forward to seeing this space come to life with construction commencing in Q2 2020.
